Friend or Foe
A downloadable game
Friend or Foe:
- A GMless 'one page' (front and back) game for two players about finding out just where an unlikely pair's relationship lands after being forced to work together.
Your character has three Stats:
Friend: Attempting to help, assist, or cooperate WITH your Accomplice; acting to mutually succeed.
Foe: Attempting to hinder, attack, or impede your Accomplice; acting with self-interest.
Emotion: Acting purely on impulse, heart, and gut; acting with chance or luck.
As you make rolls, you (or your accomplice) will manipulate stat values depending on what was rolled and the results. As the game progresses you may become better at helping and working with, or impeding and causing harm to your unlikely partner.
Meant to work with any genre or tone, the game is meant to emulate fiction of unlikely pairs whose feelings towards each other can swing anywhere between forced cooperation, direct hostility, to genuine care and help, all while attempting to get out of dangerous and volatile situations.
What you'll need:
- A handful of d6.
- Something for notes or character sheets.
- Or one printout of the page(s) each.
Features:
- Simple d6 mechanics inspired by Forged and Lazers and Feelings.
- 'one-page' design (front and back) or two singles.
- Back and forth challenge and consequence creation.
- Find out where a tense relationship lands after a stressful situation unfolds.
A quick experiment of a game I made and threw together a pdf of to mess with the process more and have some fun designing something strange.
Inspired by an Inside the Table topic about relationship mechanics in games, I started thinking about making a game that decided where the relationship falls by the end. I've yet to get a chance to playtest but we'll see.
Mechanically inspired by Forged in the Dark games and Lazers and Feelings, both core systems by John Harper.
(I listed it as In Dev because I may still do some work on but it's mainly a quick project)
Feedback welcome!
